Anybody remember which states have legislatively somewhat blocked independents from their electoral votes after Perot scared them? It's difficult to get legislation amended unless the major parties have really pissed off the electorate.
I agree it'll take 2012 to possibly get someone other than a party groomed candidate with enough support (and money) to challenge party dominance. The next president inherits a mess only a professional politician would want.
