Why cant religion and science go hand in hand.
And for the record, to all you atheists, The Holy Bible wasnt to be taken literally word for word.... just like Shakespere had his metaphors and stuff, the Bible has its own for the style of language they spoke back then.... If you think that the Bible is really telling people that everything was created in 7days, than you (meaning atheists in general) are so literal, I hope no one tells you to break a leg before doing something publically. How do you know what the time frame was meant to describe? Could one day maybe represent a million lightyears? Maybe..... my point is, The Bible is not to be taken literally, so for those who use that as an arguing point should lose it.
I am a catholic, born and raised. And I can truly say that I have faith because throughout my entire life I have questioned my faith. My dad and I were big science buffs and at the time, science seemed to completely go against my faith, so I re-evaluated. Then I came across some very persuasive atheists who were very good at smooth talking, I questioned my faith, and re-evaluated it.
Heres the biggest evidence that I truly have faith.... almost 4 years ago, when I was 15, my dad died in a car accident. He was only 33 years old. My mom was 32 and my brother 13. He died a week after easter, 8 days after we got back from one of our best family vacations ever, 5 days before my moms birthday, 11 days from their 15 wedding anniversery, and he was creamated on my moms birthday.
I was so angry, if there was a god, how could he let this happen? My daddy was too young and I was too young, and my mom and my brother, I didnt even have my license yet, something that he was excited about helping me with, he wouldnt/didnt see me graduate, he wont be there to see me get married or have the father/daughter dance with, he wont be there to see his first grandchild, he wont be there to he teach my children the things that he enjoyed teaching me. How is this fair..... there cant be a god and if there is then he is an evil bastard, I was DONE with my faith all together.
My dad was skeptical about God, because as I said before he was a science buff, but he had mentioned many times before and we followed his wishes to have him blessed by a priest before he was creamated, just in case there really was a God and heaven. And I usually do not believe in people speaking to you through your dreams, but I have no doubt that he spoke to me.
My dad taught me how to play the keyboard, and I had a dream one night that he came back after being gone for WAY too long, we started to eat dinner. He stopped. Told me to go with him. He went to my keyboard and said I want to show you something. And as he pressed the keys on my keyboard THE most amazing sound I had ever heard came out. It was a sound that is un-worldly. When many people think of heaven they think of angels and their singing and stuff, thats what this sounded like. One key let out like 50 sounds in harmony and it was the most unreal and beatiful thing that I had ever heard.
So as far as religion goes, I do believe that there is a God, I do believe that there is a heaven, until you can give me cold hard evidence that there is not, you are wasting your time with the godless preaching. I went through things that kids should never have to go through, and yet I still believe that there is a God.
Now for my next point, saying that there isnt a god because there is no proof, is like saying that out of all the planets, in all of the solar systems, in all of the galaxies, in the entire universe there is NO other life except for us. There is no proof saying that there is..... but its pretty ignorant to say that there isnt.... dont you think?
Many people dont understand that there is a big difference between religion and faith.
Religion is the standardized way of believing, the basic principles that your faith is based on, it doesnt mean that you believe everything that way. Catholics believe in the death penalty but are against abortion, I know catholics that are for abortion and Catholics that are against the death penalty.
Faith is what you believe in. I believe that there is a God who was a part of creation, I believe that there is a heaven. I do NOT believe that he controls our every move. I DO believe that he has a time for us to go naturally, when we are old and frail..... but I DO belive that humans can make the intercept and cause themselves to go before their time.... example.... smoking and dying of heart disease..... drinking and dying of liver disease or in a drunk driving accident, being stupid and jumping off of a bridge onto the concrete below..... those are all decisions that we as people, ourselves, can make to end our lives quicker.
I have no doubt that God did not plan for my daddy to leave us that young, but he was stupid and did something that ended his life faster than God intended. I DO not believe in the crap of God stopping the dying process that humans caused..... like if someone jumps off of a bridge and they wake up in the hospital with 70 broken bones, a concussion, no nose, a steel jaw and skull and they say that they saw the light and God told them that it wasnt their time.... I (PERSONALLY) believe that that is crap......
But everyone has their own faith for their own reasons, and I feel that my faith doesnt affect anyone else, nor does anyone elses faith/or lack there of affect me. So let people believe what they want until you get cold hard proof one way or the other. Because sometimes all people have is their faith..... If I didnt believe in heaven, that means that I will never see my daddy again, and thats just not something that I can live with.
So for all of you atheists, instead of trying to convince people with some kind (any kind) of faith that they are wrong, why dont you take a look at how selfish and ignorant it is to believe that there is no higher being than human itself..... Worship a beetle if you want, people need to have faith in something, otherwise, what is the point of living, if when its all over there is nothing?
