It's more expensive but it guarantees the offspring is the kind of animal you want. You don't get any runts or sickly animals if they are all identical to the selected parent. Like if you have a freak cow that gives three extra gallons of milk a day. Clone that rascal and your dairy farm would pull in a lot more money for the same expense. The same goes for sheep with superior wool, steers with better beef and chickens that lay more/better eggs. It's all big bux if you play it right. Otherwise it isn't really necessary.
