I'm an atheist in the sense that I don't worship a god. I would gladly acknowledge the existence of one if I was presented with indisputable proof of its existence. I'm going to assume there is no god and live my life as if there is none until I die or see this proof.
I don't think my religious beliefs (or lack thereof) are superior to anyone else's, Scientologists being a notable exception.
Honestly, I don't really care if there's a god and live a perfectly happy life without religious belief. I realize that it's different for other people and respect that, but it's just not "for me." I don't know what happens when I die, but I'm guessing I just die and decompose - I don't believe in an afterlife or in reincarnation. This life is all I know I have, so I'm going to enjoy it.
I don't know if I was always this way. My family is religious so I obviously took on their beliefs as a young child, but I don't know if I ever actually thought they were true.
